Dutch Apple Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1-1/2 cup apples, diced and peeled
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Topping

  • 5 tbsp cold butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugar in mixing bowl. Add in eggs, milk and vanilla. Stir to incorporate.
  3. Mix in flour, salt and baking powder.
  4. Fold in apples and nuts.
  5. Pour into prepared baking pan.
  6. Combine all topping ingredients and mix with a fork or pastry mixer until crumbly and sprinkle over batter in pan.
  7. Bake for 55 - 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let cool for 10 minutes in loaf pan before turning out onto a cooling rack.
