Cheese Soufflé

Ingredients

  • 8-10 slices soft bread with the crust removed and cubed
  • 1/2 lbs sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • dry mustard

Directions

  1. In a 1-1/2 quart casserole dish, alternate layers of bread and cheese.
  2. Beat eggs, milk, salt and a pinch of dry mustard, then pour over bread and cheese.
  3. Let stand in refrigerator several hours or overnight.
  4. Return to room temperature and bake at 350 F for 45 minutes in a p an of water like a custard.
  5. Melted butter may be poured over top before baking, if desired.
